Should You Go To Graduate School?

You probably spent nearly 4 years of your life in college getting your bachelor’s degree and are now deciding if you should go to graduate school. It might sound enticing. But is it worth it?

It honestly depends on what your goals are and what you studied in undergrad. Graduate school is not necessary for every field of study. For example, many engineering, technology, and computer science degrees do not need to go to graduate school. Most will find good-paying jobs anywhere right out of college.

But, graduate school can be worth it for some fields. Some popular fields of study that people recommend going to graduate school are business (accounting, finance, business analytics), health-related (nursing, psychology, therapy), and higher education (teacher, counselor, administrator).

I went to graduate school. I got my BBA in Finance in 2023 and MS in Finance in 2024 at The University of Iowa. I decided graduate school was for me because I knew I would be learning more information and developing new skills, which would lead me to being a better candidate when applying for high-paying jobs.

You don’t have to decide now if you should go or not. It is a big investment. You can always choose to go back to school (in-person full time or online part-time) to get your master’s degree later down the road. You will feel more confident with your decision.

Right now, just relax and focus on finding a great first job after college!
